Operation

The construction, operation and monitoring of boiler systems in Germany are regulated by the German Health and Safety at Work regulation (BetrSichV) and the Technical Rules for Industrial Safety (TRBS) published for this purpose. In addition, VdTÜV data sheets, such as the guideline for the installation of steam boiler systems; pressure relief areas; steam boilers V-DK-007, can also be consulted.

The BetrSichV applies to the provision of work equipment by the employer and to the use of work equipment by employees at work.

Among other things, the following points should be noted here:

• Preparation and regular review of a risk assessment
• Determination of inspection intervals for system components and the entire system, commissioning of ZÜS to confirm the determined inspection intervals
• Training of operating personnel
• Availability of the operating instructions
• Implementation of the hazard warnings from the operating instructions in operating instructions
• Creation of checklists for the boiler attendant
• Keeping a boiler operation log
• Regular maintenance of the boiler system by operating and maintenance personnel and authorised inspectors
• Carrying out recurring boiler inspections
