Manufacture
The manufacture and distribution of boiler systems are regulated by the implementation of the Pressure Equipment Directive (EU Directive 2014/68/EU) into national law. In Germany, this is regulated by the 14th Ordinance to the Product Safety Act (Pressure Equipment Regulation). It describes the design, manufacture, materials, testing and declaration of conformity of pressure equipment, thereby establishing uniform quality requirements that are valid within the EU and enable free movement and thus free trade in goods and initial commissioning. Manufacturers of boiler systems must subject their products to a conformity assessment and can then issue a certificate of conformity and affix a CE mark as a result.
The scope of the Pressure Equipment Directive covers closed components such as
- Container
- Boiler
- Pipework
- Pressure-retaining equipment components
- Equipment parts with a safety function that are designed and constructed to contain pressurised fluids, including directly attached parts up to the device for connection to other devices
- Manifolds and return headers
An important criterion for determining whether boilers or pressure vessels fall under the Pressure Equipment Directive is the maximum permissible working pressure of 0.5 bar or the maximum permissible temperature of 110 °C (safety temperature limiter). All hot water and steam boilers with a maximum permissible operating overpressure > 0.5 bar or a maximum permissible temperature > 110 °C are classified in categories according to the Pressure Equipment Directive in accordance with Annex II, based on increasing risk potential. The decisive factor for classification is the product of water content and permissible operating overpressure. Almost all hot water and steam boilers are classified in category IV.
The Unimat UT-L heating boiler is an exception. Since its maximum temperature is <= 110 °C (safety temperature limiter), it does not fall under the following illustration for the classification of hot water and steam boilers according to the Pressure Equipment Directive in module categories, but under the Gas Appliances Regulation. This information is relevant with regard to operational monitoring.

Numerous certificates and approvals for products in over 140 countries worldwide testify to the high quality and production standards of Bosch Industriekessel GmbH. Most products and components are EU type-approved. Customised solutions are subject to individual approval by an approved monitoring body (ZÜS).
Bosch Industriekessel manufactures its products in accordance with current national standards, e.g. EAC (Eurasian Customs Union), TSG G0001 (China), SVGW/VKF (Switzerland) and many more. All equipment for boiler systems complies with EN 12953 and is approved for operation without constant supervision (BOSB 72h).
Bosch Industriekessel manufacturing locations have the necessary certified occupational health and safety and environmental protection systems as well as quality management systems in place, e.g. EN ISO 9001, EN ISO 14001, EN ISO 45001, Module D according to the Pressure Equipment Directive, or MLSE (China). In addition, Bosch Industriekessel is a certified manufacturer of the highest quality requirement level for welds in accordance with EN ISO 3834 (Part 2). Corrugated flame tubes have been approved in accordance with the Pressure Equipment Directive. Approvals as a maintenance company for boiler systems and an international service network enable service in over 140 countries worldwide, in some cases with 24/7 availability.
