The operator’s obligation to regularly service and maintain a hot water boiler system arises from the legal regulations governing the operation of a hot water boiler system and the manufacturer’s specifications.
Unfortunately, the inspection tour of the system, which is required every 72 hours, is often perceived as nothing more than a chore. Maintenance and servicing should never be neglected, not only for safety reasons, but rather it should be seen as an important task for optimising the system.
In many cases, operational optimisations can only be achieved through careful observation of actual operations. Even minor changes in operating procedures, weekly utilisation of the system, or the required pressure or temperature level can result in the system not operating within its optimal operating conditions. Some of the adjustments that will then be necessary to optimise the system again can be implemented without major investment.
It is advisable to carry out an energy audit of existing systems at regular intervals. Often, even the simplest measures, such as changing control parameters, can have an enormous effect.

Hot water boiler systems must be analysed and inspected by operating personnel within 24 hours or 72 hours. In addition to regular maintenance by the boiler attendant, a hot water boiler must undergo one major and one minor inspection each year.
