Air preheater
Preheating the combustion air in a hot water boiler is a potential method of saving energy.
- Preheating the combustion air leads to lower fuel consumption. Due to the increased temperature compared to combustion air at room temperature, less energy needs to be supplied to the system. This in turn leads to a reduction in fuel costs for operating the hot water boiler.
- Preheating the combustion air increases the temperature of the air flow before it enters the burner. This leads to improved combustion efficiency, as a higher air temperature increases the combustion rate. This results in more efficient use of fuel and increases the overall efficiency of the hot water boiler.
- Reducing fuel consumption also means fewer contaminants such as carbon monoxide (CO) are emitted. However, due to the higher combustion temperature, care must be taken to ensure that the emissions limits for nitrogen oxides (NOx) are complied with.
