Renewable energy sources, fossil fuels, or both?

In recent decades, the proportion of renewable energies has risen sharply in some countries, particularly in the area of electric power generation. However, a global overview shows that electricity accounts for approximately 20 % of total energy consumption (as of 2023, source: Executive summary – Electricity 2024 – Analysis – IEA). However, particularly in thermal applications in the megawatt range, there are still bottlenecks in terms of generation capacity, distribution infrastructure and effective availability at times when there is little sun and wind. Hybrid systems using green electricity and one or more fuels allow you to minimise emissions while offering high system availability.
